Brazilian teachers plan Global Curriculum Project’s last year

“ Nosotros”. As social activist Carla Lam –http://projetopixote.org.br says , the word “ We ”, in Spanish, reveals the unity between we ( Nos) and the others (otros) . The search of what is common in the diverse has marked the 25February Workshop , when teachers of Language, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Physical Education from Colégio Bandeirantes, EMEF Guilherme de Almeida, EE Julia M. Pantoja, EE Luiza Hidaka, Escola Politeia , Escola Teia Multicultural gave and received feedback on the didactical sequences they’ve produced – and planned the activities that will be realized in 2012 , so their students can sperceive themselves, more and more, as planetary citizens.
We had eight hours of intense professional dialogue involving the Global Curriculum Teams, CECIP and Carla Lam, representing “ Projeto Quixote”, a charity that has been providing assistance to children in situations of social risk.

CURRICULUM WITH GLOBAL DIMENSION : Five didactical sequences and one Unit of Work – that will be posted in this website - were improved in a cooperative way . The teachers used their disciplines contents and activities to invite the students to better understand and deal with questions that are essential to the city, country and planet’s well fair.

Problems that are experimented by the students ( 7-14 yo) were examined – devaluation of cultures that are different from ours , prejudice, privilege to individual over collective transportation, lack of empathy towards the “Other”. The ways in which people from other countries perceive, experiment and overcome these problems were put on the table , linking the local to the global. The products and actions created by the students in the 6 schools – murals, videos, newspapers, community’s interventions- expressed concepts of the Global Dimension such as acceptance of Diversity, Sustainability and Social Justice . AWARD : The guidelines of the Award “Global Citizen”, created by CECIP, were presented. The tasks to be realized between April and May will demand the the utilization of this website . One teachers and one students from each of the 6 schools will be selected .

VIDEO, MATERIALS, SEMINAR- Also in the workshop we’ve discussed a 15 minutes documentary that will be produced on the Global Curriculum Project in Brazil by teacher Débora Maria Macedo, from Guilherme de Almeida School. Sérgio Ferreira, from Teia Multicultural, and Lenira Buscato, from Colégio Bandeirantes presented ideas on the use of the educational resources we’ve produced so far . CECIP invited the 6 schools to prepare themselves for the Global Curriculum Dissemination Seminar that will happen in the second week of June, in the contexto of civil society’s “warm up” for the Rio+20 Conference and the People’s Summit; .

EXTERNAl EVALUATION - Dr Priscila Scrpnic , hired by CECIP as the Global Curriculum Project External Evaluator in Brazil presented the draft of the Evaluation Plan she will implement from March to June in the 6 schools . She intends also to investigate also if Brazilian participation has contributed with Southern perceptions and approaches that were useful to the Project’s implementation in the European countries .
